Privacy Policy
Dispatch is built privacy-first. This policy explains what we collect through this website and the Dispatch app, why, and the choices you have. We collect as little as possible and never sell your data.
Who we are
“Dispatch”, “we”, “us” refers to Strange Utvikling (org. no. 935 912 032), Roppestadkollen 63 N, 3138 Skallestad, Norway — the maker of the Dispatch field audio app and the data controller for the data described here. For any privacy question or request, contact hello@thevoicerecorder.app.
What we collect
This website
- Request logs. Like any website, our infrastructure provider (Cloudflare) processes standard request data — IP address, user agent, and timestamps — to operate and secure the service. These logs are short-lived.
- Consent preference. Your cookie choice is stored locally in your browser. We set no analytics or advertising cookies.
The Dispatch app
- Recordings & transcripts stay on your device by default. Capture and transcription run locally; nothing is uploaded unless you choose to.
- Optional encrypted sync is manual and scoped — it is separate from the local store and only runs when you enable it.
- Private share links upload a ZIP you explicitly create to a private bucket; links expire after 24 hours and the file is then deleted.
- Optional cloud transcription (Pro). On-device transcription is the default and stays on your device. If you opt in for a specific recording, its audio is sent — through our own backend — to OpenAI to produce a transcript that is returned to you, and is not used to train their models.
- Optional product analytics. Off by default. If you turn analytics on (you must accept the iOS tracking prompt), the app shares anonymous, aggregate usage events with Mixpanel, stored in the EU, to help us improve Dispatch. This never includes your recordings, transcripts, titles, or locations, and you can turn it off any time in Settings.
How we use information
- To operate, secure, and debug the service.
- To comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your data or use it for third-party advertising.
Sharing & processors
We rely on a small set of service providers that process data on our behalf:
- Cloudflare — hosts this site, serves private share links, and proxies cloud-transcription requests.
- OpenAI — transcribes audio you explicitly send for cloud transcription (Pro). Audio is sent only for that purpose, returned as text, and not used to train their models.
- Mixpanel — receives anonymous, aggregate product-analytics events only if you opt in; data is stored in the EU and contains no recordings, transcripts, titles, or locations.
We do not sell your data, use it for third-party advertising, or share it with anyone else except where required by law.
Retention
Share ZIPs are deleted within 24 hours. Request logs are retained only briefly for operations and security.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to withdraw consent. To exercise any of these, email hello@thevoicerecorder.app and we’ll respond within a reasonable time.
Security
Share storage is private and access is gated by signed, expiring tokens. App data stays on your device unless you opt into encrypted sync. No system is perfectly secure, but we design for least exposure.
Children
Dispatch is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the “last updated” date above.
